PACIFIC OLYMPIANS - Supported by SiP Foundation

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Sports Intelligence Pathway (SiP) Foundation believes in a future where every Pacific and Indigenous Athlete has the opportunity to access possibilities, regardless of gender, culture, language or financial circumstances. Our foundation was initiated with a focus on breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo of people, communities and perceptions, of what is achievable for Pacific and Indigenous champions or simply offering a helping hand.

In a community effort led by the NSW Council for Pacific Communities, SiP Foundation was informed of an urgent need for Pacific Olympians-Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali and Marion Faustino Ah Tong and acted without any hesitation.

We are honoured and excited for the opportunity to offer our sponsorship ($5,000AUD) not only for the Tokyo Olympics but also for ongoing support. We have also put in place initiatives that will support both Athletes for the coming days; Ato's professional development and Marion's preparation for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Marion and Ato are very fortunate, given the unfortunate sad news that their Island-based team mates will be withdrawn from the Olympics due to covid high-alert restrictions by the Government on travel from Samoa.

Both athletes are excellent role models, young, resilient, humble and hard-working. The team duo resided in Sydney for twelve weeks in preparation, despite the ongoing lockdown. Their determination, perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity, working within their means having limited resources and literally no funding, is a tribute to not only themselves but also to their families especially their Dad/Coach-Steve. This is by far the most important driving aspect for each Athlete, tributes to their aiga (family).

Marion and Ato are both extremely talented, worthy opponents and World-Class Athletes. Both will be representing Samoa in Boxing at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.

We wish our Olympians (Ato & Tino) all the best as they compete on the World's biggest stage. Proudly representing their nation of Samoa, their families and the rest of the Pacific Islands.
